Zach T.

Procedure: Gastric Sleeve

Total Weight Lost: 150

Surgery Date: 04/23/2024

I used to be in fairly decent shape, but I always struggled somewhat with my weight. After two back surgeries at 25, I spiraled for years and climbed from 225 to 393 at my heaviest. I finally took the plunge and began my true journey in February 2024, starting with an inconsistent weight of anywhere from 380 to 393, down to what I believe was 353 on the day of surgery, which was April 23. It is now October 21, and I am down to 253. My marriage is completely different in so many ways. I have the energy and flexibility to play with my small children. Food no longer has the hold over me that it used to, and if those bad habits start to creep back, I am quickly reminded by my new stomach that I need to stop before it hurts. I heard it from others, but now I say it too: my only regret is not having done this sooner. I no longer take metformin for prediabetes, and my A1c is on the low end of normal now. I also no longer take blood pressure medication, with a consistent pressure of 105/70. In that time, my cholesterol is exactly where it should be, and liver enzymes from fatty liver disease have dropped to the low-normal range. If you have struggled with diets and exercise, and most of all, control, and have been considering this, stop considering and just do it. You will only regret not doing it sooner.

I had been thinking about weight loss surgery for 2 years prior.

The team at ASA is efficient and understanding. It does not matter what your weight loss story is; I promise they have heard it and understand. As a medical provider myself, I assure you that it does not matter. The facts are the facts. The longer you are obese, hypertensive, have high cholesterol, or have diabetes, the more you are damaging your body. Most diets fail. They fail because hormones and the brain are tough opponents to fight, and most people will eventually lose that fight. This team understands and will help you get to where you want to be if you commit to it.

I love the way my wife looks at me now. I love being able to run around with my kids all day. In December, I struggled to take them to Disney with a stroller. Yesterday, we spent six hours at Stone Mountain, and I carried my two-year-old in my arms the entire time with hardly any struggle. The number one thing I love about life now is… life. That’s such a strange concept to me after struggling for so long.
